Alumni Association

A Special Request to Alumni
To continue the tradition of education in the Louisa
High School-Louisa Grade School, two of our upstairs classrooms are
being put into service again for learning. When we were students here,
we learned English, writing, science and math, while today’s
students will learn lessons in painting, drawing, photography and other
art lessons.
We all have fond memories of “graduating” to
the upstairs classrooms. The naming right for the classrooms is $60,000.
We would like to name one of the 2nd floor classrooms the Louisa High
School – Louisa Grade School Alumni Room. Would you please help
reach this goal by sending in a contribution with the enclosed form
today? All donations are needed and appreciated, no matter the amount.
As stated in our principals and goals, the Louisa
Arts Center believes that the study of the arts should be a part of
the education of every one. The thinking skills required to interpret
art lead to improved academic performance in all subjects for students
and are helpful in learning other disciplines. The Louisa Arts Center
will provide art courses for students to develop skills in viewing
and creating art; develop critical-thinking and analytical skills,
and gain confidence in their abilities. Our goal is to provide outlets
for creativity, stimulating and inspiring individual expression. Art
education courses are for all ages and levels of experience.
One of our challenges was met! The late Sambo Johnson
challenged the alumni to match a $5,000 gift to the Capital Fund. The
challenge was met resulting in a $10,000 gift to the arts center. Since
then the alumni have been generous in giving.
Martha McIntire has issued another challenge to alumni
to give the amount equal to their year of graduation by remembering
her cousin, Pallison Broaddus Hanger, Class President of 1933.
A gift in the amount of $1,933 will be available to the art center
when another gift in the same category is made. Ask your classmates
to join together to answer a challenge or to make a challenge. All
challenges and news will be posted on our website. Keep it checked
out! All contributions from Alumni will be honored in a
special and creative way throughout the classroom. Your suggestions
of ways to accomplish this are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Shelby Millholland, 7th grade Alumni Class of 1955
